In the past months, profound changes triggered by the war in the Ukraine, led to structural

changes in the market environment. A large number of inland waterway barges are sold to

Romania and irrespective of the Rhine water levels, the biggest part of the inland barges are

now used to supply coal to the power plants. All this leads to an extreme increase in our

procurement costs for inland container shipping.

Due to the continuing low water phase, our barges will no longer be able to call at the Cologne and Düsseldorf terminals as of today.

The Krefeld and Duisburg terminals are currently accessible.

We already informed you about the low water situation on the Rhine and the exorbitantly

increased costs in inland shipping with our newsletter of 22.07.2022.
Due to persistent drought, the Rhine level drops steadily. According to today’s forecast, a
water level of less than 1.80 m (level Duisburg-Ruhrort) is expected Sunday.

We would like to inform you about the current situation in hinterland transportation. Due to

many separate reasons, the pressure to map the supply chains reasonably is increasing. The
globally disrupted supply chains and their effects have already been observed for longer time.
To handle these bookings is cost-intensive and time-consuming for all parties. The delayed
cargo opening / closing times lead to permanent rebookings and back-logs. Capacities of our
terminals and traffic modalities are limited as a result of these problems. As a result, our
colleagues have been working at their limit for a long time.

We herewith would like to keep you informed about the current handling times

in Rotterdam/Antwerp. Waiting times in Rotterdam are up to 76 hours and in

Antwerp up to 78 hours.

In addition to the increased handling times of our barges, trains and trucks at the seaports, we are experiencing growing vessel delays for several weeks.

The consequences of the Suez Canal closure, meanwhile lifted again, are serious and massively intensify these problems.
